Medicare Agent Home Visit Safety Reminders
Medicare insurance agents tend to make many house calls. As you travel from home to home, you may be thinking about whether your tablet is charged, which insurance plans you should recommend, how much gas you have in your tank, and when you’re going to have time to grab a bite to eat. There’s one more thing that deserves your attention – home visit safety.
How Home Visits Can Go Wrong
Just as real estate agents and social workers do, insurance agents who conduct home visits may find themselves in dangerous or unexpected situations. Consider the following scenarios:
- When you arrive at your client’s home, your client welcomes you inside, but your client’s dog starts growling.
- There’s no parking in front of your client’s house, so you park in front of the neighbor’s house. It’s perfectly legal for you to park there, but the neighbor starts yelling at you.
- Your client offers you some cookies. You’re hungry, and you don’t want to be rude, so you accept. Later, you feel sick and start wondering if something was off.
Put Your Safety First
While these examples are a little scary, most home visits are perfectly fine. However, there’s always a risk, so you need to be on guard and put your safety first.
Remote visits are always the safest option. If you need to meet in person, make sure a friend or family member knows your location, be aware of your surroundings, and leave if you feel unsafe.
