How to Replace Your Medicare Card – Share This with Clients!

Have you lost your Medicare card? If so, or if it has been damaged or stolen, you need a replacement. You have several options when it comes to replacing your Medicare card.

  1. Go online. You can obtain a replacement card by logging into your online Social Security Simply sign in, select “Replacement Documents” and then select “Mail my replacement Medicare card.” If you don’t have an online account, you will need to create one before doing anything else. To do so, you’ll need an email address, your Social Security Number and a U.S. mailing address. Note that you are not allowed to create an account for another person, even if you have that person’s permission.
  1. Call. If you don’t want to or can’t go online, you can call 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778). A representative will be available to assist you Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  1. Visit your local Social Security office. If you need someone to help you in-person, you can go to your local Social Security office. You can find the nearest office using this locator.

Delivery will take about a month. In the meantime, you should not have trouble accessing care at your normal health care provider, as your information will be in the system already. If there is an emergency, you can straighten out any Medicare coverage issues after treatment. However, if you need proof of Medicare immediately and cannot wait for the replacement card, contact your Social Security office for help using the information above.

Finally, be wary of scams. If someone claiming to be from Medicare contacts you unexpectedly by phone, by email or in person and asks for your Medicare information, do not provide it.
